Rashi, Rabbi Shlomo ben Yitzhak Zts’l (1040-1105), is one of the absolute pillars of Jewish tradition and one of the greatest commentators of all time. Born in Troyes, in the region of Champagne, he devoted his life to the study, teaching, and clarification of the Biblical and Talmudic texts.

His commentary on the Torah and the Talmud, unmatched in clarity and concision, has become inseparable from Jewish learning itself. Rashi Zts’l succeeded in making the most complex passages accessible by combining fidelity to the plain meaning of the text (Peshat), linguistic mastery, and the transmission of the traditions of earlier sages.

Through his work, he profoundly shaped the way Torah is studied across all Jewish communities, to the point that his commentary almost invariably accompanies the text itself. His explanations form the foundation upon which the Tosafists relied and, more broadly, the school of commentary that emerged in medieval France and Germany.

More than nine centuries after his passing, Rashi’s teachings continue to be universally studied, discussed, and transmitted, making him a timeless reference in Jewish thought, pedagogy, and the transmission of Torah.
